Recently I had the opportunity to attend the grand opening of the new location of Beard’s Brewery in Petoskey, Michigan
Originally located in a small venue on Howard Street, the brewery has now moved into a bigger and better space at 215 East Lake Street and is now serving food along with 20 unique, locally inspired, craft brews.
Relatively new to the craft beer scene, Beards was founded in 2012 by Ben Slocum and Peter Menthei after their home brewing endeavor became a success. Beards is now taking the Michigan craft beer scene by storm and was even recently included in a Pure Michigan article highlighting tasty breweries to visit in northern Michigan.
The restaurant has two floors. The main one offers large party seating and a stage for open mic/entertainment. The second floor resembles a loft space, has a bar and tables, and overlooks the dining floor below. The second floor offers beautiful views of the bay and the fantastic sunsets over Lake Michigan. They also have an assortment of records and a turntable complete with headphones so you and friends can enjoy vinyl along with the views and a pint.
Beards also has plans to open up a patio along the outside of the restaurant to enjoy food and drink during the summer months.
Now if you’re looking for a recomendation, my favorite summer brew is Luna! A saison-style wheat ale that’s perfect to enjoy while out on the lake, floating in the pool, or around a late night campfire with friends. I personally find it refreshing floating around on my flamingo on a hot summer day. 🙂
Beards is currently on tap in restaurants and bars across the northern part of Michigan and is also distributed in cans which can be found in local party shops and liquor stores.
