Shanty Wraps!

If you’re a northern Michigan fanatic like me, you definitely know about Fishtown. And if you know about Fishtown, you obviously know about the Village Cheese Shanty.

If you don’t, no need to worry. I’ve got you covered! Read more about Leland and Fishtown in one of my previous blog posts here.

Known for its comforting menu of sandwiches, salads, and of course, cheese, the Village Cheese Shanty has been feeding tourists, hikers, and fishermen alike for over 45 years. With wraps, pretzel buns, baguettes, and even gluten-free options, they’ve got something for everyone! PLUS to wash it all down, they have a wide selection of Michigan beer and hard cider.

The gluten-free option is what actually drew me in on this trip. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in June of 2018 and have been missing out on my favorite northern culinary destinations ever since. When I found out that the shanty was now offering GF wraps, I had to give it a try.

I ordered the Lake Effect sandwich as a gluten-free wrap and it truly did not disappoint! Grilled chicken, tomato, goat cheese, lettuce, and pesto mayo all wrapped up in a sturdy (if you’re allergic to gluten, you understand) gluten-free tortilla. And of course, I had to order a Smackintosh, of Tandem Hard Ciders, to go with it!

It was an afternoon well spent!

Whether you’re stopping by to shop the Fishtown boutiques, passing through on your way to the Manitou Islands, or even looking for something to do on a rainy day, I strongly suggest paying a visit to the Village Cheese Shanty!

You can never go wrong shopping small and you’ll never go hungry with a trip to the shanty!
